The bill introduced by Mr. Schwabe of Oklahoma authorizes an appropriation of $776,742.03 to be paid to the Osage Tribe of Indians for the sale of their land in Kansas. The appropriation will be placed in the Treasury of the United States and distributed to the tribe according to their rules and regulations. This payment is intended to settle the tribe's claims under a treaty from 1865, and both the tribe and the United States waive any claims to interest or offsets. The Secretary of the Interior is authorized to pay the fees and expenses of the tribe's attorneys from the appropriation.
