Concerns About Proposed Legislation for Indian Affairs, 1946-03-15 - 1946-03-15

Mr. Files expresses concerns to Congressman Schwabe about a rumored proposal to take Indian matters out of the jurisdiction of the courts and place them under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Interior. Congressman Schwabe reassures Mr. Files that there is no such proposal and that the Osage Tribal Council actually wants to reduce the jurisdiction of the Indian Bureau and have their affairs handled by the courts. Schwabe promises to consult with people like Mr. Files before introducing any legislation affecting Indian affairs. Schwabe asks Mr. Files to keep him informed of any developments in Osage County.
