Opposition to British Loan: A Letter from Condon Mackay, 1946-05-21 - 1946-05-21
Item — Box: 5, Folder: 80
Identifier: CAC_CC_047_1_5_80_0022
Condon Mackay writes to Rep. George Schwabe urging the House of Representatives to reject the British loan, stating that the US cannot afford to help other countries when it is facing serious financial issues itself. Mackay believes that trying to buy friendship is futile and that the US has already contributed enough to weaken the self-reliance of England. He argues that it would be better to let natural economic courses take place rather than bail out weak economies. Mackay expresses that the American people cannot tolerate any more financial burdens.
