Memorandum on Proposed Congressional Commission for National Indian Policy Review, 1973-07-18
A hearing has been scheduled for a Senate Joint Resolution proposing the creation of a National Indian Policy Review Commission to study the history of Federal-Indian relations and suggest reforms. The Commission would have bipartisan representation, secure financial resources, and a professional staff to ensure meaningful input from the Indian community. Its duties would include studying past policies and structures of Federal agencies and making recommendations for future legislation to fulfill the needs of Indian people.
