Correspondences on Bureau of Indian Affairs' Handling of Oil Leases in 1973, 1973-02-28

Walter E. Bailey, a petroleum engineer, wrote to U.S. Senator Dewey Bartlett expressing his concerns about the Bureau of Indian Affairs and its handling of oil leases. Baily believes that the Bureau is not beneficial to Native Americans and that its operations are wasteful and inefficient. He cited specific examples of issues he has encountered with the Bureau's regulations and procedures. Senator Bartlett responded, acknowledging the difficulties Baily highlighted but expressing hesitance to address them at that time. Additionally, Bartlett instructed the Bureau's Muskogee office to follow up on Baily's situation.
