Request for Financial Assistance for James R. Wallen Jr.'s College Education, 1973-10-09

Kenneth Smith, General Manager of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, Oregon, expressed support for Senate Joint Resolution 133, which would establish the American Indian Policy Review Commission. He highlighted the accomplishments of the Warm Springs Reservation in education, housing, and economic development, emphasizing the importance of initiative from within the community. Smith also raised concerns about the Bureau of Indian Affairs' funding and leadership, urging for more responsible and effective implementation of their Trust responsibility. He commended the Committee for their interest in Indian issues and believed that the establishment of the American Indian Policy Commission would bring new direction to Indian programs.
