Lorraine F. Misiaszek presented comments and recommendations on the Indian Self-Determination and Educational Reform Act of 1973. She commended Senator Jackson, Senator Abourezk, and the Committee for their work on the bill, highlighting the importance of allowing tribes flexibility in assuming parts of programs that affect them. She also addressed the need for better cooperation between states and tribes in education, broader definitions of educational programs, fair pay for educational personnel, and tribal representation in advisory councils. Furthermore, she emphasized the critical need for school construction funds and land acquisition privileges for tribes establishing educational agencies and schools.
