Chilocco School Investigation Report Deemed Preliminary, Allegations of Misconduct Emerge, 1950-01-01 - 1959-12-31
The preliminary report on the Chilocco Indian School recommended the removal of the school superintendent and further investigation into allegations of criminal malpractice. The report, printed in the Congressional Record, detailed numerous charges against the school, including physical abuse of students. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is conducting a continuing investigation and plans to take appropriate action to improve conditions at the school. Senator Henry Bellmon expressed confidence that steps will be taken to modernize Indian education programs and support young people in receiving the necessary training to become productive citizens.
