1965 Correspondence Regarding Alleged Misconduct and Discrimination at Ft. Sill Indian School, 1965-08-17
Item — Box: 95, Folder: 4B
Identifier: CAC_CC_004_8_95_4B_0003
Mrs. Bonnie Turner wrote to Congressman Page Belcher expressing concerns about the deteriorating educational program at Fort Sill Indian School, discrimination against Indian employees, improper conduct by staff members, and fear of retaliation for speaking out. The Bureau of Indian Affairs responded, stating that the complaints were largely unfounded or overdrawn, and that there are well-defined grievance procedures in place for employees. The Bureau also explained that the school is now serving students with severe educational needs and that employee rights are protected. Mrs. Turner's letter was returned with the Bureau's response.
