Amendment Bill for Choctaw Termination Act, 1969-01-01 - 1969-12-31
The Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation is requesting amendments to the Choctaw Termination Act of 1959 in order to finalize the affairs of the tribe and preserve their tribal identity. The proposed amendments aim to extend the period for completion of sales and court actions, permit the sale of all mineral interests, and ensure that individual Choctaw rights are not affected. Members of Congress, including Honorable Carl Albert and Congressman Tom Steed, are studying the bill and are willing to support it. The Chief is actively seeking sponsorship for the bill and hopes to carry out the intent of the legislation passed in 1906 and 1959.
