Urgent Appeal for Support: Retain Senate Amendment Decontrolling Meat, 1946-07-17
The New York Council of Wholesale Meat Dealers is urging Congressman Schwabe to support the Senate amendment decontrolling meat in the Emergency Price Control Act. They argue that legitimate industry and trade are regaining control of meat production and distribution, while black market operators are being forced out of business. They believe that continued operation of economic forces will bring an end to high livestock prices and ensure an ample supply of meat at reasonable prices for consumers. They warn that reinstatement of meat price control will lead to corruption and price increases in the black market. They emphasize the importance of retaining the Senate amendment in any price control extension bill recommended by the Conference Committee.
