Family Allowance Legislation for Soldiers: Correspondence Between Mrs. Gertrude Tharp and Honorable George B. Schwabe, 1945-11-14
Mrs. Gertrude Tharp wrote to Honorable George B. Schwabe asking about a newspaper clipping regarding family allowance for soldiers' dependents. Mr. Schwabe contacted the Office of Dependency Benefits, who informed him that the proposed 18-month provision for family allowance only applies to soldiers in active military service, not those who have been discharged. Family allowance for discharged soldiers' dependents ends at the end of the month of discharge. The information was relayed back to Mrs. Tharp by Mr. Schwabe. Brigadier General L.H. Sims also responded to Mrs. Tharp, confirming the details of the family allowance provisions for soldiers and their dependents.
