Legislation to Repeal the Choctaw Termination Act: Memorandum to Chairman Aspinall, 1970-01-01 - 1970-12-31

The Department of the Interior recommends the enactment of H.R. 4145, a bill that provides for the disposition of estates of intestate members of certain Native American tribes in Oklahoma. The bill allows for escheat of trust or restricted lands to the respective tribe if the member dies without heirs. Amendments are suggested to clarify the language and ensure that the Choctaw Tribe can take control of escheated property. The Bureau of the Budget has no objection to the report. The bill was introduced in the House of Representatives in 1969.
