Proposal to Amend the 1955 Act for Longer Term Leases of Indian Lands in New Mexico, 1967-01-01 - 1974-12-31
H.R. 7701, introduced in the 92nd Congress, aims to amend the Act of August 9, 1955, to allow for longer term leases of Indian lands located outside the boundaries of Indian reservations in New Mexico. The current leasing authority only permits a 25-year initial term plus a 25-year option, but this bill would allow for 99-year leases to be granted. The legislation was proposed in response to a request from tribes and lending institutions to allow for longer lease terms for development purposes.
