The Indian Financing Act of 1973 aims to provide capital to develop and utilize Indian resources, improve their standard of living, and promote economic development. It defines terms such as "Indian" and "Tribe", and authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to make or guarantee loans for individuals and organizations. Loans can only be given when there is a reasonable prospect of repayment and when applicants cannot obtain financing from other sources. Loans must be fully repaid within thirty years or three-fourths of the useful life of the project.
