Correcting Historical Injustices: An Examination of H.R 8824 and the Restoration of Allotted Lands on the Bad River Indian Reservation, 1967-01-01 - 1974-12-31
H.R. 8824 corrects an error made by officials of the Bureau of Indian Affairs regarding an allotment made on the Bad River Indian Reservation in Wisconsin in 1895. The allotment was mistakenly taxed and taken by the county, leading to the lands being acquired by the United States. The bill transfers the land back to Mrs. Harriet La Pointe Vanderventer or her heirs without consideration and under the same conditions as the original allotment.
