The letter dated May 6, 1946, from Elmer Thomas to Wallace Dixon discusses the recommendation of J. H. Bevin for Principal Chief of the Choctaws. It explains that the President makes the appointment based on the recommendation of the Secretary of the Interior and that the position does not require Senate confirmation. The letter advises Dixon to write directly to the Secretary of the Interior about the matter. Additionally, a group of enrolled Choctaw Indians and intermarried individuals also express their recommendation for Bevin as Principal Chief in a separate letter.
