Scope and Contents
The Native American Coalition of Tulsa, Inc. (NACT) is a non-profit organization made up of seven Indian organizations and eight members at large. In 1975, NACT was founded to address the challenges faced by the Native American community in Tulsa, including low income, substandard housing, lack of transportation, unemployment, and limited access to services. NACT has worked to educate Native Americans about available resources, eliminate barriers to service delivery, and raise awareness of Indian culture. NACT is the only resource of its kind for off-reservation Indians. In 1982, NACT provided over 55,000 units of services at a cost of less than $2.00 per person. The organization has long-term plans to promote social and economic self-sufficiency for Native Americans and has established partnerships with the private sector. They are concerned about an administrative transfer from the Administration for Native Americans to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, as this may result in reduced funding for non-federally
