Scope and Contents

The Subcommittee on Indian Affairs of the U.S. House of Representatives will hold hearings on May 14 and 15 on H.R. 5647, a bill to authorize the partition of the surface rights in the joint use area of the 1882 Executive Order Hopi Reservation and the surface and subsurface rights in the 1934 Navajo Reservation between the Hopi and Navajo Tribes. The hearings will begin at 9:45 a.m. in Room 1324 each day, with hearings also being held Monday afternoon. The purpose of the hearings is to take testimony from the Navajo and Hopi tribes and from government officials.
