Scope and Contents

The United States Department of the Interior announced the establishment of a $500,000 plastics molding plant in Durant, Oklahoma, which will provide jobs for around 100 Indian men and women. This initiative is part of a larger effort to improve the economic situation of American Indians, with 40 other plants already providing employment for 1,500 Indians. The Bureau of Indian Affairs played a key role in facilitating the establishment of the plastics plant in Durant, working with local organizations and government agencies. Production at the new installation is set to begin in June, with plans to increase the workforce as output grows.
