Scope and Contents

Mrs. Culberson received a response from Congressman Carl Albert regarding the payment to members of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations for the sale of their land to the government. Individual payments will be made to living enrolled members first, with regulations being written up by the Indian Office. Checks will be mailed out by the Superintendent of the Five Civilized Tribes Agency in Muskogee, Oklahoma around the latter part of July. Payments to heirs of deceased members will be made after all living enrolled members have been paid, with proof of heirship notices being sent out for completion. Mrs. Culberson expressed gratitude for the Congressman's assistance and inquired about whether the deceased members' heirs would benefit from the money.
