Scope and Contents

The Cherokees will vote on a tribal constitution soon, regardless of who wins the election for chief. The proposed constitution includes an elected tribal council and aims to limit the chief's power. Concerns have been raised that an amendment granting the chief veto power over the council could consolidate power in the chief's hands. Cherokee debts from a previous venture are also a major concern.
