Scope and Contents
Mrs. Bettie B. Ward wrote a letter to Carl Albert inquiring about the payment to Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians for the sale of their coal lands to the government. Carl Albert responded explaining that the share of a deceased member will be distributed to their heirs after proof of heirship is provided. He also mentioned that living enrolled members will be paid first and checks will be mailed out around the latter part of July. Mrs. Ward had inquired about deceased members and their claims, as her son and husband were deceased, but did not have children. Albert assured her that the Indian Office will determine the legal heirs and the amount each will receive.
