Scope and Contents

Mr. Isom Thompson wrote to Carl Albert, a Congressman, inquiring about the payment to members of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations for the sale of their land to the government. The Indian Office advised that living enrolled members will be paid first, with checks expected to be sent out around mid-July. Payment to heirs of deceased members will be distributed after all living members have been paid, with proof of heirship notices to be sent out for completion. Thompson expressed hope for receiving the payment soon.
