Scope and Contents
Senator Dewey Bartlett has introduced two bills to distribute almost $1.8 million in funds to the Creek Indians of Oklahoma. One bill calls for the distribution of $1,346,000 to be divided between the Creek Indians of Oklahoma and those east of the Mississippi River, while the other bill provides $450,000 to the Creek Nation of Oklahoma for approved purposes. The funds are to pay Creek claims from 19th Century treaties with the federal government. The larger fund will be distributed on a per capita basis for Creeks east of the Mississippi.
