Scope and Contents
Senator Dewey Bartlett has introduced two bills to distribute almost $1.8 million in previously appropriated funds to the Creek Indians of Oklahoma. One bill allocates $1,346,000 to be divided between the Creek Indians of Oklahoma and others east of the Mississippi River, while the other bill provides $450,000 to the Creek Nation of Oklahoma for approved purposes. These funds are to pay Creek claims stemming from 19th Century treaties with the federal government. The settlement offer was made to avoid further litigation on the issue of land value.
