Scope and Contents

The Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce is inquiring about the selection of a new Minuteman site, as reported in Aviation Daily. The Tinker site may have fallen out of consideration, but could be back in the running. The Defense Department plans to add more Minuteman installations, with at least one new site to be announced in the fall. Brig. Gen. Samuel E. Phillips believes more than the announced 800 units will be needed and that several hundred more may be necessary. The Air Force is working on selecting additional sites, with one new site designated each fiscal year. Phillips also noted the low costs of the Minuteman missile compared to other strategic systems.
