The Bureau of Indian Affairs announced the immediate replacement of the Superintendent and Principal of the Chilocco Indian School in Oklahoma due to allegations of student mistreatment. Assistant Secretary Harrison Loesch ordered a thorough investigation into the conditions at the school, including reports of students being handcuffed and subjected to physical punishment. The Superintendent and Principal were reassigned temporarily, and a BIA education team recommended improvements to the quality of education and living environment at the school. The Superintendent denied reports of brutality, stating that students were handcuffed for disciplinary reasons and injuries were the result of accidents or fights.
