Scope and Contents

The Department of the Interior has allocated funds to the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes as part of awards made by the Indian Claims Commission. The funds have not yet been distributed, as the Department is still formulating plans for their use. The Choctaw Indians will vote on accepting a sum of money in lieu of annuities, and it is advised to delay the distribution of funds until this decision is made to avoid additional costs. Congressman Carl Albert has inquired about the handling of these funds.
