Scope and Contents

Mrs. Lida Echo Hawk wrote to Page Belcher, a House of Representatives member, seeking help in selling her husband's restricted interest in land within the Pawnee Reservation. The Department of The Interior, Office of Indian Affairs, informed Belcher that specific information was needed, such as the name of the Indian allotment and legal description of the tract, for the sale to proceed. They also mentioned a potential program for disposing of highly fractionated Indian allotments in the future. Belcher assured Mrs. Hawk that he would look into the matter and provide updates as soon as possible.
