The Largent collection contains materials obtained and created by the congressman and his staff during the time he represented Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bulk of the materials consist of press clippings and newslettters. The remainder consists of correspondence, speeches, administrative materials, and research materials collected by the office.

Biographical/Historical Note

Steven Largent was born in Tulsa Oklahoma on September 28, 1954 in Tulsa Oklahoma. He attended the University of Tulsa, where he distinguished himself as an All-American football player. In 1976 he was drafted into the National Football League, where he played for 14 years, a career that culminated with his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Five years after retiring from football, he won election to Congress, representing Oklahoma’s 1st District in Congress from 1994 through 2002.
