Biographical Information:

Joseph Colburn Pringey was born in Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, on May 22, 1858. Reared on a farm, Pringey later lived in Iowa and Missouri. In 1891, he participated in the land run which opened the Sac and Fox country in Indian Territory. He homesteaded a farm near Kendrick, Oklahoma. Pringey served in the Senate of the Oklahoma Territory, was a delegate to the 1900 Republican National Convention, and was a member of the board of regents of the University of Oklahoma. Engaged in farming, he also was a postmaster in Kendrick and Chandler, Oklahoma. From 1912-1920, he served as the county clerk of Lincoln County, Oklahoma.

In 1920, Pringey was elected as a Republican to the U.S. House of Representatives and represented the Fourth District. He served but one term as he was defeated by Thomas D. McKeown in the election of 1922. While in Congress, Pringey secured the Chandler post office building, the rifle range west of Chandler, and the federal building in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Following his term in Congress, Pringey returned to Chandler and resumed his agricultural pursuits. He died on February 11, 1935, and was interred in Oak Park Cemetery.
