This collection documents the activities of the Oklahoma Republican Party from 1960 to 1983. The greater part of this collection are financial files consisting of 1,241 folders, 29 small boxes of contribution cars and 10 large flat boxes of financial ledger journals and voting statistics. These materials range in date from 1958 to 1981 and include, but are not limited to, fundraising and contribution files, donation forms, bank account files, receipts, and audit reports. The collection also includes over 1,700 folders of institutional files which include general office files and research files on candidates and voter issues. The 2016 addition totals over 700 folders consisting of candidate research files, event planning files, convention files, voter registration and research files, ephemera and many oversized vote statistics. Other, less extensive series in the collection include the correspondence series which includes 318 folders, and the 1992 addition which contains a small amount of material including maps and newspaper articles.

All requests must be made at the folder level and approved by an archivist prior to research. Materials must be reviewed for personally identifiable information and, if needed, appropriately redacted before the researcher is allowed to view them.

Arrangement of Materials:

The Oklahoma Republican Party Papers have been arranged into five series: Correspondence, Institutional Files, Financial Files, 1992 Addition, and 2016 Addition. The Correspondence series is arranged alphabetically by surname. The Institutional Files series is divided into two sections: general office files and research files. General office files are arranged alphabetically by topic then chronologically. Research files are arranged alphabetically by topic and surname then chronologically. The Financial Files series is arranged into several groupings based on the material types and content then further arranged within those groupings alphabetically/ascending order as well as chronologically by year, month, and day. The 2016 Addition series is arranged alphabetically and then chronologically.

Custodial History:

This collection was originally housed in the Western History Collection at the University of Oklahoma. Transferal of the collection to the Carl Albert Center Congressional Archives occurred in June 2016. The Western History Collection received this collection from the Oklahoma Republican Party and unknown donors in a number of installments beginning in 1961.

1992 Addition Series (Box 111): The material in this box was accessioned in September and November of 1992.

2016 Addition Series (Boxes 125-141): Unprocessed material was found during the transferral of ownership in June 2016. The archivists were not able to match an acquisition record to the material and so it was processed as a new addition.

Tom Cole and John Caldwell completed the first arrangement and description of the ORP papers after their acquisition by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents.

2016 Reprocessing Project:

Lead Archivist: Rachel Henson

In 2017, archivist Rachel Henson reprocessed the original accrual and subsequent unprocessed materials after the collection's transfer to the Carl Albert Center Congressional and Political Collections. Her work involved physically rehousing materials, generating new metadata, and preparing the data for ingest into Archon.
