Synar accompanied the Senate Armed Services Committee in 1980 to their trip to the Near East in which they visited Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, and Israel. In 1983, Synar joined the Anti-Defamation League of B-nai B'rith's Congressional Study Mission to the Middle East.
