This is an expansive collection of photographs and negatives most of which are of organs, personalities, and associations related to the theatre organ. Particularly strong areas are the Organ sub-series of Wurlitzer photographs, and the Personalities sub-series of Gaylord Carter, Lyn Larsen, and Ann Leaf.

Administrative History:

Tom B'hend and Preston Kaufmann were both active members of the Theatre Organ community during their lifetimes. Their publishing partnership – Showcase Productions – produced both Kaufmann's Fox, the Last Word... and the third volume of The Encyclopedia of the American Theatre Organ. Partners in life and in business, their research work over time resulted in the creation of the B'hend & Kaufmann Archives, containing thousands of photographs, negatives, and pieces of ephemera related to theatres, film, and theatre organs.

The collection is organized into four distinct series: Organs, Personalitites, Associations, and Miscellaneous

Custodial History:

This collection was donated by the Preston Kaufmann Trust to the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS). It was then donated to the American Organ Institute in 2012 as part of the larger ATOS donation.

Related Materials:

After Preston Kaufmann's death, the B'hend & Kaufmann Archives were distributed across three institutions based on the relevancy of the materials to each institutions collecting mission: The American Theater Organ Society, The Margaret Herrick Library, and the Organ Historical Society.
