Paula Tennyson danced with the Original Ballet Russe from 1956-1962. Her collection contains correspondence, articles, photographs, and contracts from her time in the company.
Paula Tennyson began her ballet training in Texas with Alexander Kotchetovsky and studied with Nikita Talin. At the age of fourteen she joined the Slavenska-Franklin Ballet Company, Ballet Theatre, and at age seventeen joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. There she rapidly rose to the rank of first soloist. With the birth of her first child, she retired from performing. Tennyson became a faculty member for the Virginia Ballet Company for more than 30 years. She staged classical ballets there like Giselle and Chopiniana while also making guest appearances onstage and in television. She passed away in January 2012.
