TRANSCRIPTION: Good evening. Ladies and gentlemen. My name is Lloyd Bentsen. I'm a United States senator from Texas and I'm the Democratic candidate for vice president of the United States. I'm here on television tonight because there's something I want to say about the national campaign that you've been seeing over the last several weeks. I think it's been absolutely miserable. I think you deserve a lot better than night after night distortions and lies on the evening news but for the most part that's all you've been getting after the Democratic Convention down in Atlanta Governor Dukakis and I set out to talk with you about the things we think matter. Most for America We spelled out plans for making college education loans available in this country. We believe that a college education is not just for the privileged few. We believe it should be a right for every qualified high school student. We came out with a plan for housing. They will help young couples realize that American dream of owning their own home. We believe that they deserve a chance to start their own lives and move out of their parents homes and maybe their parents will think that's not such a bad idea either. We worked on legislation to develop a trade policy that will create and keep good jobs here in the United States instead of in Europe or Japan Mike Dukakis. And I believe that when countries enjoy full access to our markets. We're entitled to full access to their markets. We worked on these issues and told you about our proposals because we believe that making America number one. Again
