The Economics Division of the Legislative Reference Service at the Library of Congress conducted a review of statements made in a Playboy magazine article on federal spending. They found that total federal spending for the items mentioned in the article was less than $6.5 million, with the exclusion of a large urban renewal project. The Division provided information and attachments regarding the validity of the claims made in the article, including information on Navy programs, the heroin hotline, the Alaskan Chateau, and the Interdepartmental Screw-Thread Committee. They also provided information on the Food and Drug Administration's efforts to develop safety standards for children's products.
