Notebook containing Bellefonte Indian Baptist Church Sunday school records in Cherokee for the years 1965-67 , 1965 - 1967
Item
This notebook, originally spiral-bound, features Sunday school records for the years 1965-67 from Bellefonte Indian Baptist Church, Cherokee County, Oklahoma. Documented by the collector, Christine Armer of the Cherokee Nation, these records are exclusively in Cherokee and provide insight into the function and operation of the church, while serving as a primary source of the Cherokee language as a living language. According to Armer at the time of accession, lines were drawn through the documented church records to keep track of what tasks and goals were complete and therefore serves as an indication that "that particular business was finished." Metal spiral binding removed at time of accessioning.
