The section on customs consists of information on Indian living quarters, Native American clothing, tribal dances, and the Shawnee language, concluding with stories and storytelling ideas. Stories include "The First Fire," "How Thunder and Earthquake Made Ocean," "Waynabozhoo and the Wild Rice," "Waynabozhoo and the Maple Tree," "The Birch Tree and the Woodpecker," and "A Legend about Three Sisters."
