Sierra Club, 1960-1974

 Series
Identifier: CAC_PP_20172_2_0000
Scope and Contents The Sierra Club series traces the activities of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Sierra Club from its foundation in 1971 to 1990. The bulk of the series is comprised of news clippings, correspondence, drafts of legislation, flyers, and pamphlets gathered on environmental issues from the mid to late 1970s. Topics that stand out includes the Oklahoma Gas and Energy Company utility rate reform, the Scenic River Bill (S285), the water development plan, the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act, and planning for the Black Fox Nuclear Power Plant. Issues of The Sierran, the chapter newsletter, address these interests as well. The administration and structure of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Sierra Club is captured by foundational documentation, Charles Wesner’s responses to letters supporting the club’s efforts, executive committee meeting minutes, meeting agendas, membership lists, by-laws, and financial reports.
